Rosa’s Pole Bean Seeds

An American heirloom from Kentucky. This bean, however, struck me as having many of the qualities Italian type romano beans have. Pod set was huge, just enormous, and the beans were deep green and flattened, not a pencil pod type. I really liked this bean except that it was late to dry its seed for me, though in the end I managed – with an 8 foot pole covered in drying pods dangling precariously in my entrance way for a few weeks. It worked though. The seeds are a dark blue black, very blue when immature, jelly bean shaped and the surface is not perfectly smooth. Not sure if this is the bean’s genetics, since my original seeds were like this, or if there is some other factor in there. But the beans all dried down and I got 3/4 of a pound from 3 plants.  2022 seed.  Gratefully received from the wonderful collection of Russ Crow, Woodstock, Illinois.
