Lilascheke Pole Bean Seeds

A European heirloom from the Moravia region of the Czech Republic. Wow, wow, wow. There are thousands of gorgeous heirloom beans out there, which is part of the allure of collecting them. But this bean is a dazzler, bright, almost electric purple splashed on white. I’ve not seen another quite like it. I haven’t ever eaten them as I was always interested in getting seeds, but I think it’s likely eaten as a yellow snap bean. I have never been able to get a lot of seed from this variety, and it isn’t easy to get perfect quality seed either, as I like to do. But in 2022 I started them as transplants and that helped a lot in getting all the pods to dry down in time. It isn’t something that anyone should rely on for sustenance, but what it lacks in volume it makes up for in beauty, that’s for sure. The name translates to ‘Lilac Flecked’, which is indeed an understatement.  Gratefully received from the wonderful collection of Mandy Boticna, Tyndall, Manitoba.
