A very nice heirloom green snap bean, quite prolific with flat and fairly long pods. Unfortunately the voles also thought it was a great bean, and killed my plants 3/4 of the way through the season. Luckily, many pods had matured so I was still able to harvest some seeds. There are two distinct ‘Potomac’ beans circulating, the other one is white seeded and offered by Victory Seed Company. The one I have is offered by Sand Hill Preservation Center. They mention that it dates to pre – 1860. It’s place origin is the Virginia side of the Potomac River. After the Civil War it was carried west by the Barley family to Tehama County, California, where it has been grown for over 125 years. Both varieties are quite rare. 15 seeds/packet ( I will be regrowing this bean in 2026 so I can offer bigger packets)
