State 1/2 Runner Semi Runner Bean Seeds

$5.00

I am thrilled to have finally succeeded with growing this wonderful variety after a few attempts and lots of bad luck!  The ‘State 1/2 Runner’ bean has a long, very American garden history—tied to Appalachian foodways and early regional bean breeding rather than to one individual breeder.  Developed and stabilized in the eastern United States, especially West Virginia and surrounding Appalachian regions, in the late 1800s–early 1900s.  Nice crops of tender, pencil pod type green beans on 4 foot vines.  Excellent flavor like so many Appalachian beans.  Pods are about 5 inches.  Wonderful, historical bean variety.  It’s likely this bean was also used to make ‘leather britches’.  20 Seeds/packet
