Rote Keibitzbohne Pole Bean Seeds

$4.00

A European heirloom dry bean, considered to be a ‘minestrone’ bean for soups. Plants are quite tall and high yielding. Seeds are beige and flecked in maroon, shaped like big marbles. I believe the name translates to ‘red lapwing’ and may be a nod to the meaty nature of this cooked bean, much like the way turtle beans are named as such owing to their perceived heartiness similar to turtle meat. Rare. 2023 seed.  Gratefully received from the wonderful collection of Artur Kobylecki, Kielce, Poland.
