Mariazeller Pole Bean Seeds

An Austrian heirloom bean that translates to ‘from Mariazell’. This is a very loved bean – the name is a reference to Mariazell Basilica, also known as Basilica of the Birth of the Virgin Mary. It is the most important pilgrimage destination in Austria, and one of the most visited shrines in Europe. The seeds are really beautiful, very large and round with a mix of white and red colouring with goldish caramel flecks over the red overlay. It was not easy to get this bean to finish drying all its pods, it’s a bit later maturing for my area, but I managed. In my case transplants would be beneficial for this variety. A worthwhile bean with a very special namesake.¬† 2022 seed.¬†¬†Gratefully received from the wonderful collection of Russ Crow, Woodstock, Illinois.
