Hemelvaartboontje Pole Bean Seeds

An old European bean, known for over a century. For dry use as far as I know, given the name it likely has a Dutch origin. Seeds are 2/3 white with 1/3 partly covered in a dark burgundy, chocolatey overlay. Quite a pretty seed coat. ‘Hemelvaart’ translates in English to ‘Feast of the Ascension’, and this bean was named in honour of the bodily ascension of Jesus into Heaven. There doesn’t appear to be much other detailed history about this bean. A wonderful historical variety.
