This is possibly the best cherry tomato I’ve ever had. It’s phenomenal. Both sweet and tart, small, but still a good size for a proper cherry tomato. Bright red, resistant to splitting, these are just soooooo good. In fact, I couldn’t resist eating these so much that I have very little seed to share! But I saved a little, enough to fulfil a few seed requests. I received these from the tomato master Mr. Bill Minkey of Wisconsin, thank you Mr. Minkey! 2024 seed.

I don’t actually like tomatoes, but I grow them for others and because they’re easy to save seed from for the seed library contributions. And Sweet Aperitif was a winner on both fronts, as well as in robustness. Everyone who tried them was shocked by how sweet they were, even venturing that they wouldn’t be out of place in a fruit salad, though some opined they were TOO sweet, lacking any acid tang and distinct tomato-y flavour. More importantly, they were one of the two tomato varieties that recovered from an early virus outbreak (what appeared to be Curly Top), shaking off the early stunting to produce a very impressive amount of fruit, only outdone in spread and production by the Spoon tomato beside it.
