Stokesley Shelling Pea Seeds

$5.00

The Stokesley pea name comes from the market town of Stokesley in North Yorkshire, England, where the variety was historically grown for many years — enough that local gardeners and seed savers associated the type with the place.  According to the Peas on Tees seed sovereignty project, Stokesley was saved by a family of blacksmiths near Carlton‑in‑Cleveland and later donated to a heritage seed library by a local resident of Stokesley. However, families could no longer recall growing it for generations, suggesting the variety is at least several decades old and perhaps much older.  Excellent shelling peas, slightly curved pods are produced in abundance.  Grows to 6ft+.  Rare. 20 seeds/packet.
