An Italian heirloom, the ‘Red Bean of Lucca’ is for dry use, the plants yields are remarkable. Seeds are about the size of a kidney bean, pink with darker pink almost burgundy swirls and flecks. Seeds are very well formed and I had no culls at all. Pods are very firm, but easy to shell. This is a very old bean, according to the website ‘Vetrina Toscana’ news of its cultivation ‘dates back to the first decades of the last century’. A great bean variety for soups. 2024 seed.
