Magnum Bonum Shelling Pea
$4.00
Wow. This shelling pea was released around 1860 and it can GROW. I’m sure it hit 8 feet at some point, it’s a truly towering variety. I was really surprised how looooong it took to make peas, and it was definitely the last to dry down, but MAN it can make a load of peas! I mean the production warrants an eye-popping emoji, and its Latin name exalts it for good reason, Magnum Bonum means ‘great and good’. Delicious eating. I have no explanation why critters didn’t raid them because of lateness, but they didn’t. Too tall maybe. Regardless, this is a pea which is a cut above, high class all the way. This has gotta be one of my new favourite shelling peas. You can’t eat the pods, but apparently, they make a great vegetable stock. 2022 seed.
