Lilian’s Caseload Shelling Pea Seeds

This is Baker Creek’s best selling pea, and now that I’ve grown it I can see why. It is extremely early, the vines are nice and manageable – about 3 feet – and the peas are large and sweet, delicious. The variety originates with a Mennonite farmer who grew the variety Caseload for years, even after the original seed company no longer sold it. Over time it became it’s own distinct variety through selection. Even Martha Stewart has recommended this pea! The only drawback to this variety is that the seed yield isn’t as good as some others, but that seems to be the case with any kind of super early legume. Rare. 2023 seed.
