Jacob’s Cattle Bush Bean Seeds
$4.00
An American heirloom bush bean. Beautiful bovine looking seed, with burgundy and white marbling & speckles. A very old heirloom, named for the story in the Old Testament about Jacob and his selection of Laban’s speckled cattle. A very productive and robust variety that produces well in all kinds of weather. Matures early. For dry use. This one has been around for a very long time, and isn’t rare – thankfully! Its ability to produce is astounding and in a calamity this is a bush bean I want to have around. This bean was acquired originally by John Withee, one of the greatest bean collectors of the 20th century. During the years between the 1960’s and 1980’s Mr. Withee collected over 1,200 different bean strains and is considered to be one of the greatest heroes of the heirloom bean preservation movement. it is incalculable how many beans he saved from disappearing. Jacob’s Cattle was one of Mr. Withee’s favourite beans, and therefore, very special indeed. 2020 seed.
