Irish Connors Pole Bean Seeds
$4.00
A family heirloom bean that originated in Ireland. The family of Ken Connors, born 1898, emigrated from Ireland to Boston in 1900 bringing this bean with them. In 1907 they made the trek to New Brunswick, and then again all the way over to Vancouver to finally settle – all the while growing & keeping this bean with them. Such a testament to the spirit of the settlers, keeping that little piece of Ireland with them no matter where their travels brought them. I had only a small sample of this seed to grow, so I wasn’t able to try the green beans, though this certainly appears to be used as a green bean, with wide, flat pods and likely also could be used as a dry bean. So many of the older heritage beans were dual purpose. A lovely piece of Canadian pioneering history, worth keeping alive. Gratefully received from the wonderful collection of Russ Crow, Woodstock, Illinois. 2022 seed.
