Galaxy Soybean Seeds (DV 2371)
$4.00
Technically, ‘Galaxy’ is not the true designated name for this soybean but it’s true name is a series of letters and numbers – none of which I will ever remember (DV 2371). But more than that, for such a phenomenal looking and performing soybean, it truly does deserve a name worthy of it’s glory. From 9 plants I harvested 1 lb, 6 ounces of seed! In my neck of the woods, this borders on the miraculous and on par with seeing a sasquatch. It is a deep caramel color, with black swirls all over it, very marbled looking, almost galactic. I’ve never seen anything like it. That said, I had to work to get these beans. I started with 3 week old transplants, and I propped in bamboo supports as the months went on and I had to cut the plants down (because a frost was imminent) and dry them in a bucket in my sunroom. This variety also has one major weakness – it gets incredibly huge and I’m sure it approached 4 feet tall with huge, long branches loaded with pods. These tend to break, a lot. I threw away a full armload of branches due to breakage. I honestly think each plant needs a tomato cage, or a pole next to it and should be tied/secured regularly as the plant grows – or you’ll simply lose a lot of branches. I can only wonder what my total weight would have been with all that extra seed! Even with the fussing I did – and I fussed alot – this variety was worth it. It’s actually pretty incredible. 2022 seed. Gratefully received from the wonderful collection of Chris Hoetschel, Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
