Cucamelon Seeds

$4.00

A cucumber alternative, with a few catches. It is a very productive species, but the fruits are small and must be eaten very young. When they get older, the size of a large grape, they get too sour to eat, in my opinion. So there is a window and they need to be picked in time. You’ll often find these described as ‘lemony’ – oh, please. When young though these are actually excellent as a salad addition and come in WAY earlier than cucumbers, but salad addition is about it. They are the size of a raspberry when at the good to eat stage. So, I like them mostly to fill that empty gap before the gherkins or cucumbers show up because these will be ready to go, especially if you do transplants. I skipped growing these for a few years, thinking they were not worth the space, but in 2022 I gave them another whirl and I’m glad I did. They aren’t a perfect vegetable, but for an early veggie these fit the bill. Don’t make pickles with them, you’ll regret it. 2022 seed.
