A terrific Appalachian heirloom green snap bean, it was originally distributed by the H.G. Hastings Seed Company which was established in 1889. The ‘Hastings’ bean was prized for its excellent flavor and tender texture. It disappeared from commercial catalogues in the 1990’s but locals continued to grow and save the seeds, so it’s been protected from falling into obscurity by backyard gardeners. It also goes by the name “White Hastings’, could be considered a low pole or tall semi – runner.
