One of the most interesting beans I’ve come across, ‘Vetich’s Wonder’ is an unusual bean. In 2015, Lieven Decrick from Pepingen, Belgium found this bean in a Colombian gene bank. It is thought to be one of the rare cases of an actual cross between two different bean species – P. vulgaris x P. coccineus. The seeds actually look like runner bean seeds in a miniature form, in a common bean seed size. The cross was developed by the English company ‘James Veitch & sons’ around 1900. The seeds are medium sized, a creamy color with black speckles characteristic of runner beans. So intriguiing! The bush plants are very productive, mid season maturity. For dry use. Rare. 2024 seed.
