A regional Hungarian heirloom pepper with a fabulous sweet taste. These were likely bred in 20th-century Hungary, in the country’s long tradition of pepper breeding. Ferenc is a common Hungarian given name, which was often used for cultivars developed by or associated with specific breeders or breeding stations. ‘Ferenc Tender’ was bred for cool climate reliability, high yields, early maturity and sweet flavor. Like many of the Eastern European peppers they start out an almost ivory color and mature to deep red with fabulous aroma. I have only been growing this one for 2 years, but really like it and will likely keep it in rotation. Plants are on the smaller side. These do very well in the ground as well as in pots, though pots can limit the number of fruits they can produce. Very nice pepper.
