Jærert Dry Pea Seeds

$5.00

The Jærert is a local landrace of garden pea originating from the Jæren landscape in southwest Norway.   The name means  ‘pea from Jæren’.  It isn’t a modern commercial cultivar, but a locally adapted traditional variety recognized for its cultural value.  It is such a delightfully quirky pea!  The seeds are extremely tiny, and these are traditionally grown among oats.  The pods are also tiny, though when young the pods are tasty and can be eaten like mangetout or snap peas. They’re said to be resistant to common diseases and pests like powdery mildew, pea leaf weevil, and the pea moth.  The Slow Food Foundation for Biodiversity has a great article about this pea. Fondazione Slow Food  Later maturity, should be planted in full sun. 20 seeds/packet.

Unfortunately I forgot to take a photo!
