I almost didn’t grow these when I realised the Latin name had ‘cosmos’ in it, because I was looking for ‘exotic’. But thankfully I tried them anyway, and they were magnificent. The plants were towering, to at least 5 feet, and the ‘flower hedges’ were just covered in orange soda coloured blossoms. It was a sight. The foliage was tropical looking, bushy and very dark green – almost like chrysanthemum leaves actually. The greens are eaten when young in Indonesian cooking. The established bushes are also very tolerant of drought and poor soil. A wonderful flower variety that definitely needs room if planted in fertile soil.
