Returning for 2026.\u00a0 A wonderful heirloom lettuce from France, which dates to 1785. I tried 6 lettuce varieties in 2022 and this was the best performing one of all; early, big leaves lasted all summer but went to seed in time for me to actually collect some seed. Many lettuces go to seed a little late for me, and sparrows in my area are very opportunistic with lettuce seed heads. The lettuce itself was fantastic quality, it’s a loose leaf type with a light green color. Was very early and I was able to harvest from them for a long time. One of the best lettuces I’ve tried for Northern Ontario.<\/p>\n
UPDATE<\/strong>:\u00a0 After 4 years growing out this lettuce I can attest that it will become perennial through seed dispersal reliably when allowed to go to seed.\u00a0 If will sprout in spring naturally and mature its seed in time, often even in a shorter year.\u00a0 Tiny seedlings appear around May and I simply lift and move them into rows where I’d like them.\u00a0 This is the only lettuce that I can depend on to come back every year in the North without any intervention. 2025
