I’m always on the lookout for fabulously colored corns and I found a treasure with this one. The cobs of this variety are a true root beer soda brown, with a splash of some genetic diversity. 90% of the cobs will fall under the root beer palette, and a small number of cobs will lean into red tones, mahogany, chocolate and even beige & taupe tones. I’ve never seen another popcorn like it. About 1% of the cobs were a speckled mix of banana yellow and lavender purple kernels – which I plan to rogue out for root beer purity, but if you’re interested in your own yellow and\/or lavender corn project let me know. Production is very, very good and each plant can have 1 – 3 cobs depending on the soil fertility. Plants closest to my electric fertilizer pole produced 3 cobs, those most distant 1. I always use transplants for corn, so for me this variety matured early outdoors – mid September.
