For a pole bean they had an unusual habit of holding their bean pod clusters just above and out from the foliage. The pods themselves were small &amp; rather unique too; they start out green when quite small, but as they mature they get a smokey purple shading to them. Not flecking as so many beans get, but a purple smoke effect. The seeds are black and very small, and do not possess the rounded, smooth qualities of more refined beans. But they are prolific. For use as a dry bean as the fresh pods are rather coarse. 2023 seed.\u00a0 Gratefully received from generous grower Jack Halloway, Salem,
