{"id":3411,"date":"2026-01-07T22:32:06","date_gmt":"2026-01-07T22:32:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/heritagehobbyseed.com\/?post_type=product&#038;p=3411"},"modified":"2026-01-09T22:21:36","modified_gmt":"2026-01-09T22:21:36","slug":"physalis-minima-ground-cherry","status":"publish","type":"product","link":"https:\/\/heritagehobbyseed.com\/index.php\/product\/physalis-minima-ground-cherry\/","title":{"rendered":"Physalis Minima Ground Cherry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An interesting ground cherry, this is a different species than both regular ground cherries (Physalis pruinosa) and the Schoenbrunn ground cherry (Physalis peruviana).\u00a0 Physalis minima is native to tropical and subtropical regions of Asia and the Pacific like Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Thailand.\u00a0 It\u2019s a wild plant that has no named cultivars, unlike the more commonly grown ground cherries.\u00a0 Alongside \u2018Aunt Molly\u2019s\u2019 the difference between them is apparent, though the plants are similar.\u00a0 The fruits are earlier and produced in bigger quantities, and the plants more upright.\u00a0 I would consider this variety the better option for jams because of the higher &amp; earlier yields.\u00a0 The flavor straight off the bush is not as delicious to me as Aunt Molly\u2019s, unless you catch it really early when it\u2019s still a bit tart.\u00a0 These sweeten intensely quite quickly.\u00a0 But in jam preserves the lack of tartness can be adjusted with lemon juice.\u00a0 A very worthwhile species altogether.\u00a0 Top notch production and well worth a try if you struggle to ripen &#8216;Aunt Molly&#8217;s&#8217; ground cherries in time.
