An old French heirloom bean.\u00a0 I believe this may also be the same bean listed on Bohnen Atlas as ‘Hundert f\u00fcr Eine’. Being an older Vilmorin bean from France it has travelled far from home and goes by the same ‘A Hundred From One’ moniker in several languages; ‘Cent Pour Un’ in its French homeland. Personally, I’ve always loved that idea – from the one comes the many. It is quintessential to seeds, and part of what makes growing them such a wonderful experience. It\u2019s a heritage variety selected by gardeners in the Rh\u00f4ne\/Dr\u00f4me area of France in the 19th century. One source suggests it was first noted around 1868 by a grower named Rivoire in the Rh\u00f4ne region.\u00a0 A bush bean with, not surprisingly, great production! I did not pay close enough attention to the plants and so don’t know the color of the pods, though I’m tempted to assume they were green.
